More than a century in the making — from the founding of AIA Southern California to the chapter that serves Long Beach and the South Bay today.

AIA Southern California
The Southern California chapter of the AIA was established in 1894. The Architects Association of Long Beach — founded in 1920 — joined forces with the AIA and became the Long Beach District of AIA Southern California in 1959.
Cabrillo Chapter · 19671966
The Cabrillo Chapter
The Cabrillo Chapter was established, incorporated, and officially chartered as a separate chapter of the AIA — encompassing the portion of Los Angeles County from Long Beach to El Segundo and east to Whittier. The Articles of Incorporation were received by the California Secretary of State on August 11, 1966.

Long Beach / South Bay Chapter
Recognizing that a more geographical name would better suit the organization, the Cabrillo Chapter membership voted to change its name to the Long Beach / South Bay Chapter.
