Alec Johnson, AIA – Director

Mr. Johnson is a California licensed architect and Principal of Alec Johnson Architecture. In addition, he is a full time faculty in the Design Department (Interior Architecture) at California State University Long Beach. He graduated with a Bachelors of Architecture from SCI_ARC, [Southern California Institute of Architecture] and studied at the Hochschule Fur Angewandte Kunst Wein, Austria [School for Applied Arts] under renowned architect Coop Himmeb(l)au. His experience ranges from complex medical centers, educational facilities, commercial interiors and custom residential. He was part of the architectural team that renovated the Getty Villa in Malibu, Ca. and the Greek Theater in Hollywood, Ca. Alec co-authored a book entitled Building Code Quick Reference Guide: A Schematic Building Design Timesaver. He is a recipient of the American Institute of Architects Distinguished Service Award, Long Beach/South Bay (Cabrillo) Chapter.

Leticia Mimila, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, received a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, including a year abroad in Florence, Italy. She has over fifteen years of architectural experience working on various projects, such as commercial, workplace, adaptive/re-use, mix-use, and housing. She has completed some notable projects: New Hope Bellflower Shelter, Naples Center, Belmont Point, Long Beach Police, East Division & Juvenile Investigations, and ECAM Secure|CPS Security headquarters. Leticia is currently a project manager with LPA Inc., where she works with the commercial studio changing lives by design.

She also gives back to the profession with her continued support to the California Architects Board as a subject matter expert. She assists in the development, maintenance, administration, validation, and occupational analysis of the architectural licensing examination. She is also on the Jordan High School ACE Advisory Board. She currently resides in Long Beach with her husband, son, and two dogs. When she’s not working and spending time with her family, she loves to run. She has done several marathons and triathlon events.

Kristine Hammond, Executive Director

Kristine has been with AIA Long Beach/South Bay since 2013 and serves as our Executive Director. She wears multiple hats in her position: Overseeing the work of the Board of Directors, handling all communications of the chapter, membership, programming, bookkeeping, and website management.

Kristine holds an Masters in Business Administration from Pepperdine University (2002), a Certificate in Legal Assistantship from University of California, Irvine (1995), and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from San Diego State University (1990). She lives in Long Beach with her husband. They have two college-aged children.

Nader Ghassemlou, Assoc. AIA – Director

Nader Ghassemlou, Assoc. AIA, is an award winning designer and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic University. He has more than 21 years of experience in the field of architecture in various firms including Morphosis, Gensler and independently with his own firm OBJEKT Studio. Notable projects include the single home residence, 2299 Molino, in Long Beach and the Alain Hirsch Construction Office Building of which Nader was awarded the AIA Award of Excellence in Design in 2013.

Nader was born in Tehran and now resides in Long Beach, CA. He also has a passion for photography and seeks to document his own personal experiences, to capture scenes and events as he sees them and to share with others the beauty and diversity of the world.
